Associate Spotlight: Tim O'Keefe, Property Management Controller

Along with things like community impact and social responsibility, the financial security of any company is one of the most important indicators of corporate health. And when it comes to monitoring that financial health, it's folks like Tim O'Keefe who are the doctors. As an enthusiastic obstacle course racer and road cyclist, Tim knows about endurance and conditioning. He brings this to his work in helping to strengthen the long-term wellness of LMC as a Property Management Controller. Building a company into a national multi-family powerhouse is a marathon, not a sprint.

The team that Tim has helped build plays a crucial role in ensuring that financial best practices are constantly evaluated and implemented at every level of the LMC team. He works directly with on-site teams to provide training and support in the integral areas of budgeting, vendor management, account reconciliation, and financial reporting.

This transplant from western New York is married with two adorable kids and has found a new family here at LMC. Let’s hear from Tim a little bit more of his experience and what he loves most about working for LMC!

What is your official title and job description?

Property Management Controller – Responsible for the financial reporting for all of LMC’s operating communities.

What is your LMC story (how did you land at LMC)? –

In 2014, I was working in a similar role in my hometown in Rochester, NY. I heard about this great opportunity with a new growing company and jumped at the opportunity. I was a little wary of moving my family from western NY to Texas but once I met the LMC leadership team, it felt more like joining the family than starting a new job. I’ve loved my time in north Texas and working with the LMC teams.

Tell us your favorite thing about working at LMC?

Everyone is invested in the success of each other as individuals and the Company becomes great as each person meets their potential.

What's your favorite LMC Core Value?

Move. There’s a famous quote from Shawshank Redemption where Andy Dufresne says “I guess it comes down to a simple choice. Get busy living or get busy dying.” As a Company, and really bred by our leadership, we’re constantly striving to move in a positive direction and not be satisfied with “business as usual”. That desire to keep moving throughout each department in our Company keeps us all motivated to achieve great things.

What are you most looking forward to in LMC's future?

To continue to see each of our teams grow and the individuals in their roles achieve great things in their communities and our Company.

Bio/LMC Accolades:

After joining the LMC Living team in 2014, I worked with the property management and operations teams to create an accounting team. Throughout the successive years, we’ve grown to a team of 10 individuals (and growing) that provides consistent monthly financial reporting to our on-site teams, Company leadership, outside lenders and investors.

On rolling with the punches:

I’m a long-suffering Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres fan. Next year is our year! (said every year by me since I was 5)
