LMC Spotlight: Anokhi Chandarana, Community Manager at Lumen

Anokhi Chandarana is an unabashed people person. That’s why her 2009 decision to join one of the most people-centric businesses one could imagine—the apartment industry—was definitely a solid career move.

After building a commendable multifamily career, Anokhi joined LMC in April 2019 as the community manager of Lumen, a magnificent 32-story high-rise in Tysons, Va. Under her watch, Lumen was LMC’s lease-up community of the year in 2019 and recently was named among the Elite 1% in J Turner Research’s authoritative ORA Rankings.

Anokhi was also named to LMC’s President’s Club in 2019, and Lumen’s operations team was recently recognized for its 1st Class Service with her at the helm. Anokhi recently took a quick break from her duties at Lumen answer a few quick questions:

What is your official title and job description? How long have you been with LMC?
I am the community manager at Lumen and I have been at LMC for almost two years now. My job is to create a community for residents and provide them the living experience they expect and deserve, all while making forward-thinking business decisions for LMC. I transitioned from the architecture industry to property management 12 years ago, and I am never looking back.

What is the favorite aspect of your job?
I find the opportunity for creative problem solving to be very inspiring! Every day is different—I never know what the day holds for me. I also love developing, coaching and mentoring a strong team that cohesively works together on the same goal. The challenges are easy to overcome when everyone around you is working hard while having fun.

What’s your favorite LMC Core Value?
My favorite LMC’s core value is, hands down, its commitment to people. LMC leadership genuinely cares about its team members and residents. With the LMC culture, you know that you are not just a number; you are genuinely valued and appreciated. Senior leadership creates an environment that supports, encourages and motivates you.

What have been some of the biggest challenges during the pandemic?
The pandemic brought several unforeseen challenges to daily operations, financials and resident relations. The situation required us to be flexible, adaptable and often pivot our strategy. Staying positive was the key during these unprecedented times.

If you could have a superpower, what would it be and why?
If I could have any superpower today, I would want the ability to make everyone happy. Many people are going through economic hardship and social anxiety due to the pandemic. It would be great to help people solve their most pressing issues and spread happiness.
